Hawaiʻi Community College will host the 4th Annual Hawaiʻi Community College Day on February 24, 9 a.m.—1 p.m. at the Manono Campus in Hilo.
The day will begin with a kīpaepae welina, a traditional Native Hawaiian welcoming ceremony. The college’s academic programs and student services will present interactive exhibits that highlight the degree and certificate programs available at the campus.
The event is free and open to the public.
Hawai‘i Community College - Pālamanui invites representatives from community-based organizations to attend referrers and recruitment training for the 2017-18 Ēlama Project Scholarship Program.
California State University, East Bay’s Inclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble (IIE) returns to Hawai'i Island to collaborate with Hawai'i Community College and UH Hilo’s Dance Programs from February 6 – 12. The group will be welcomed with a Kīpaepae Welina at Papa 'A Hale at 8:30 a.m. on February 7.
Hawai'i Island Goat Dairy owner Dick Threlfall and cheesemaker Erin Roscoe shared their cheese making expertise with the students at the Hawai'i Community College - Pālamanui campus. The students tasted the full range of goat cheeses, learned about the goat farm and goat names, added different acids to the goat milk, and concluded with preparing chevre.
The University of Hawaiʻi wants to provide free community college for all students with financial needs through a scholarship program called Hawaiʻi's Promise. The university is working with state leaders to secure the $2.5 million in funding needed to implement the pilot program that would impact an estimated thousand students.

Hawai‘i Community College proudly releases the names of the following students who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the Fall 2016 semester. The Dean’s List requires students to have completed 12 or more credits for a letter grade achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 (B+) for the semester. 343 students have attained this distinction this semester. Electronics Technology student Eric Paopao participated in the 2016 Akamai Internship Program during the summer and helped develop a safety mechanism at the UH88 Observatory on Mauna Kea.
Eric, a second-year Electronics Technology student at Hawai‘i Community College, was one of 29 students from Hawai‘i to participate in the internship this year, many of them coming from other University of Hawai‘i campuses.
Students in the Hawai'i Community College Intensive English Program (IEP) celebrated the completion of the summer 2016 session and the graduation of several students from the program on Thursday, July 21.
