Former tutor donates to the Hawai'i CC Learning Center

A decades old promise has turned into a donation to the Hawai'i Community College Learning Center.

Chanh Chi, who was a tutor at the Learning Center 25 years ago, recently made a generous donation of $6,000 to establish a Learning Center enrichment fund. On Tuesday, July 30, 2019 Chi and his family returned to the Learning Center and spent time with the current tutors, faculty, staff and administrators of Hawai'i CC.

SPRING 2018 DEAN'S LIST ANNOUNCED

Hawai‘i Community College proudly releases the names of the following students who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the Spring 2018 semester.  The Dean’s List requires students to have completed 12 or more credits for a letter grade achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 (B+) for the semester.  The following 263 students have attained this distinction. Please join us in congratulating them!

Students complete 52nd model home

On May 9, Hawai'i Community College, community partners, supporters and others celebrated the completion of the 52nd Model Home designed, built and landscaped by Hawai‘i CC students. Handing over the keys and house plans to the family that will call this place home was a special occasion as always.

AGRICULTURE STUDENT RECEIVES TSUJI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Jericho Tobin, the inaugural recipient of the Representative Clift Tsuji Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Hawai'i Community College Agriculture Program, celebrated the gift at a luncheon recently with Tsuji’s son, Ash Tsuji; Tsuji’s former campaign manager, Jack Fujii; and Hawai‘i CC Agriculture Professor Lew Nakamura.

Tobin received the scholarship this past academic year, and he graduated from the Hawai‘i CC Agriculture program on May 10.

GEOGRAPHY STUDENTS DESCRIBE HUAKAʻI AS 'AMAZING, EYE-OPENING'

In the 2018-19 Academic Year, 160 students from our Geography of Hawaiʻi and World Regional Geography classes at Hawaiʻi Community College have participated in huakaʻi – excursions – that have allowed them to visit, learn from and about, and give back to many different places in every moku or district of this island.

AS HE PURSUES A PHD IN HISTORY, NOAH DOLIM SEES HAWAI‘I CC AS A KEY PART OF HIS PAST

After graduating from high school on O’ahu in 2010, Noah Patterson Hanohano Dolim needed direction. He was an underachieving student in high school, Dolim says, and he didn’t know what to do next. That’s when he decided to move to Hilo and enroll at Hawai‘i Community College. With family on Hawai‘i Island, it seemed like a smart move, and it turns out he was right.

CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2019!

Hawai‘i Community College hosted commencement ceremonies May 10 and 11 as students, their loved ones, faculty, staff, administrators and honored guests celebrated the students’ academic achievements.

This year, 576 students graduated from Hawai‘i CC with a total of 766 degrees and certificates. Among the graduates were 35 students who earned a 4.0 grade point average.

HAWAI'I CC TAKING OVER MANAGEMENT OF NHERC

The North Hawaiʻi Education and Research Center (NHERC) in Honokaʻa will be transferred from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo to Hawaiʻi Community College. Officials from both campuses made the announcement in April, and both campuses are working together closely on preparations to transfer management on July 1, 2019.
