MECHANICS WORKBOOK, WORKSHEET PRACTICE, AND QUIZZES (20%) (150 points.)

This includes ten grammar points covered in Chapter 7 of your text.. Each point of grammar contains three activities: exercises in the text which can be corrected by yourself, a separate worksheet which you also correct yourself, and a monitored quiz completed and corrected online. You receive five points for finishing the textbook exercise and the worksheet successfully (80% accuracy is expected.) plus the number of points achieved on a 10-point quiz. Therefore, there is a total of 15 points for each set of grammar activities and a grand total of 150 points for the entire grammar section.

WEB SITE (12%) (90 points)

Each student must create and maintain a small web site which must include, at a minimum, a separate page for each writing activity. Points will be rewarded for completeness and attractiveness of the web site.



ATTENDANCE ( 8%) (60 points)

You receive two points for "being here" each day. However, "being here" has a different interpretation this semester due to our access to the Internet. You can earn "attendance credit" even if you are not PHYSICALLY present in the classroom by e-mailing me the reason for your absence. You can use the Learning Center with better computers than ours. Perhaps, you have a better computer at home. If you can do most of your classwork on a computer of your choice, feel free to do so. All quizzes must be taken in the classroom, however. Grammar quizzes may be taken when you have completed the textbook reading and activities and achieved 70% on the grammar worksheet. Chapter quizzes must be taken on the day designated on the schedule.

EXTRA CREDIT

Extra credit can be earned in several ways: reports of new happenings with the Internet, tutoring other students in your class about writing or the Internet, unusual gains on pre/post tests, and developing a creative resource for the English 060 web site.
