E60 Bulletin Board
Thursday, October 22, 1998
Announcements:
November 5 is designated as quiz make-up day. Be sure to inform me the previous Thursday (October 29) what quizzes you need to make-up so they can be available to you during the November 5 class time.
Your grade status is updated every time your teacher starts grading a set of assignments. In Workspace, click the icon marked Up-to-date Evaluation and follow the links for your latest grade status. Writing Activity #2 and Mechanics Quiz #7 scores are now included in the total points possible. If you haven't completed an assignment or quiz, your grade will be lower than you may want it to be.
Today's quiz hint: be sure you study the list of most easily confused words in your text. The most difficult problem I see is recognizing the correct use of principal and principle.
- PRINCIPLE must always be used as a noun (as in "he has high principles"); it is never used as a adjective.
- PRINCIPAL can be noun (as in "school principal" or "principal on the savings earned") or an adjective (as in "the principal rules for the organization").

This web site has been created by Birch Robison, Associate Professor of Reading at Hawai'i Community College, for students enrolled in English 060 (Technical Report Writing) for the 1998 Fall semester. It is an update of a similar activity originating from the HERN '95 Institute, held at Kapiolani Community College in July, 1995. Questions about these Internet activities can be directed to birch@hawaii.edu. The E60 Bulletin Board is updated two or three times a week during the semester of instruction.
