Writing Assignment #4: Research Report

Choose a topic about a subject in your trade or field of study and write a paper of considerable length (4 or more pages) about the topic. Select your topic in consultation with your instructor. Utilize the sources and ideas you or a classmate gained from completing Writing Assignment #3. Use the examples provided in Chapter 4 of your text.

Format

• Title page
• Table of contents
• Main texts with headings if appropriate
• Bibliography
• Appendix

Sources

• At least five different sources of information:
• a combination of at least three books, newspapers, and/or magazines, preferably from the UHH library or an on-line source such as Hawaii FYI
• at least two Internet sources

Procedures and timeline

10/14 Decide on topic.

10/14 Gather information about your topic:

• Study examples of reports in your textbooks.
• Use information gathered through Writing Assignment #3
• Take notes from libary sources or xerox and highlight appropriate materials.
• Cut and paste as needed and appropriate from Internet sources.
• Keep all notes and materials as evidence of your research.

11/13 Complete first draft of report.

11/13-20 Individual conference with instructor about necessary revisions.

12/5 Hand in final draft.
