Directions for Completing an Assignment Online 
at the Distance Reading Lab

Some Reading Lab assignments can be completed at any computer with internet access via Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.  This "place" in space is called the  Distance Reading Lab and it operates via Laulima, an online hardware/software program administered by the UH Instructional  Technology Services (ITS).  The program is free to students enrolled within the UH system.  Access to the Distance Reading Lab is password-protected.

Go to the HawCC Reading Lab homepage at <http://hawaii.hawaii.edu/wwwreading>.

For first time users:

1. Scroll down the page and find the Laulima link. 
2. Log in with your MyUH username and password.
3. In the sidebar menu, click on Membership.
4. On this page, click on Joinable Sites.
5. Scroll down the page and find the Distance Reading Lab and click join.
6. The Distance Reading Lab will now appear in the top menu bar.  Click the link.

If this is not your first time, just click the Laulima link and login with your MyUH username and password.

• For AIMS Assignments
1. Click the link for AIMS Online Tutorials and Practices on both the Homepage and the following page.
2. Click the letter (F, G, H, etc) of the level at which you are working.
3. Click the appropriate title of the specific tutorial, e.g., K2 Main Idea Practices.
4. For each assignment, follow the directions provided online.
5. Keep a record of your time and scores for each activity and place that information in your Reading Lab folder when you return to the Learning Center.
    
• For other Reading Lab assignments: analogies, online vocabulary, and critical reading skills practices
  1. Click the link for More Reading Lab Activities and Practices on the Homepage.
  2. Click the link to the appropriate reading activity, e.g., Analogies, Advanced Main Ideas, etc.
  3. For  each activity, follow the  directions provided online.
  4. Keep a record of your time and scores for each activity and place that information in your Reading Lab folder when you return to the Learning Center.
