WARNING: The information contained on these pages is intended to inform the reader about certain health beliefs in a particular culture.  It is NOT intended to be used for diagnostic purposes or self-treatment.  We do NOT recommend these practices.  The reader is encouraged to seek medical advice for health problems. These web pages have been developed by students in the practical nursing and associate degree nursing programs.  The associate degree nursing students developed their pages during their family health nursing course.  These pages focus on maternal/child health beliefs and practices.  The information is anecdotal, obtained from interviews, except where noted.  The class members work in groups to gather the information and develop their web page. Each one is unique and reflects the group's creativity.

The practical nursing students did their project during the first semester and the information on these pages include a broad spectrum of traditional health beliefs through the life-span.   In 1997, the students collected the information from literature and interviews and submitted their findings.  The faculty developed the web page.  In 1998, students collected the information and developed their own web pages.

Hawaii is unique in it's cultural blend of several different ethnic groups.  The web pages reflect the wide variety of cultural practices found locally.  It is important to note that the information on the pages may not apply to all groups within a culture or to all individuals within a cultural group.

We hope you enjoy these pages.  We would be very interested in your comments regarding the cultures discussed, health practices in other cultures, and our web page design.  Click on the Email Us index or write to the address on the left.
