Hawai‘i CC’s Phi Theta Kappa wins big at the 2017 regional convention

Hawai‘i Community College’s Alpha Psi Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society attended the 2017 Pacific Regional Convention at Kapi‘olani Community College where they were recognized with chapter and individual awards.  These awards included:

Agriculture and Culinary Arts farm-to-table partnership pleases palates

A beautiful academic partnership is blooming across the Hawaiʻi Community College campus. The Agriculture program is providing produce for the campus’ Culinary Arts program and students on both sides are thrilled.

Hawaiʻi CC Agriculture student Ana Murillo said, “I feel that that this is very important to Hawaiʻi because 90 percent of our food is imported.”

4th Annual Hawai'i CC Day happening on Friday, February 24

Hawaiʻi Community College will host the 4th Annual Hawaiʻi Community College Day on February 24, 9 a.m.—1 p.m. at the Manono Campus in Hilo.

The day will begin with a kīpaepae welina, a traditional Native Hawaiian welcoming ceremony. The college’s academic programs and student services will present interactive exhibits that highlight the degree and certificate programs available at the campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Hawai'i CC professor to perform in 'Arirang: The Cultural Spirit of Korea in Hawai'i'

Enjoy and evening of vibrant performances that showcase and critically reflect on the importance of the cultural traditions of Korea. This show will feature a community-based choral presentation of “Arirang,” the song many consider the un-official anthem of the Korean nation. Also featured will be folk and court dances by Halla Huhm Korean Dance Studio from Honolulu and a multi-generational, diasporic piece that integrates Korean shamanistic elements into the interpretive storytelling of the recent tragic sinking of the Sewol ferry in Korea.
