Hawai'i Community College's Kō Education Center in Honoka‘a announces the launch of its new six-week, non-credit butchery course starting in Spring 2025. The course is made possible through a four-year, $950,000 grant from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The training is part of the UH Meat & Poultry Workforce Consortium, in collaboration with UH-Hilo and the College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources at UH-Mānoa.
HILO, HI (September 27, 2024) – Mary Christine Nguyen, a student at Hawai‘i Community College, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship, a recognition that highlights her academic excellence and leadership potential. Selected from nearly 1,500 applicants, Nguyen will receive a $1,000 scholarship in support of her educational pursuits.
Kristina Leialoha Kaleimamahu, a Hawaiʻi Community College student, has faced challenges to earning a degree in higher education. However, her determination has helped to propel her in her journey, recently earning a place as a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar. Kaleimamahu will receive a $1,000 scholarship as part of her prize.
After 35 years working in higher education in Hawaiʻi — across five campuses statewide — Susan Kazama is calling Hawai‘i Island home again. Kazama, born and raised in Hilo, returned in July 2023 to serve as Hawai‘i Community College’s interim chancellor. One year later, she takes the helm officially, effective July 19, 2024. Among Kazama’s top priorities for the college are workforce development, student success, indigenous values, sustainability, and campus safety.
Hawai‘i Community College proudly releases the names of the following students who have achieved Dean's List honors for the Spring 2024 semester. The Dean's List requires students to have completed 12 or more credits for a letter grade achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 (B+) for the semester.
