BIOGRAPHY:
Dan (Handsome Person) Petersen has been teaching for the University of Hawaii for more than twenty-one years. First as a lecturer, and from Aug 2001 to Aug 2005 as an Instructor and now again as a lecturer. Prior to teaching, Dan was in the military for ten years. After completion of his junior year in high school, Dan dropped out of high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army. A distinguished military career followed, which included service in Viet Nam, with the 101st Airborne Division for six months and for eighteen months with the 173rd Airborne Brigade as a Forward Observer/Recon Sergeant, with Charlie Co. 1st/503 Infantry. Dan was honorably discharged in 1969. After re-enlisting in 1971, Dan was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division in the Federal Republic of Germany, for four more years, until his second Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army. Education followed, as listed above. Dan's academic career began at Honolulu Community College, in the fall of 1989. Dan is, at the present and has been teaching for University of Hawaii, Hilo and Hawaii Community College, since the fall of, 1996. Having studied with such preeminent figures as, Irving Copi, Logic, Larry Laudan, Philosophy of Science, David Kalupahana Buddhism, Barry Curtis Ethics and Wittgenstein and Ronald Pine Logic, Dan is well qualified to teach in these areas of expertise. Dan looks forward to continuing as a philosophy person for the University of Hawaii Hilo and Hawaii Community College.
